Completed pottery projects

The Elephant Bank I was making for Alex was supposed to turn out blue. One thing I have learned this far is that the glaze NEVER turns out as you expect...and sometimes better than you expected, but not too excited about how the color turned out. Alex now has a purple elephant bank! The tall rectangular-like cylinder was intended to be half the size it is. I decided to make this bank when I found out we were having a girl. But I am happy the 3D flowers turned out and didn't fall off in the kiln firing. The leaf was a 20 minute project. I had 20 minutes left of class and didn't want to go home early to face momhood...so I decided to make a foot long leaf. I meant for it to be a leaf platter, but wet clay doesn't hold form without support.....so it ended up being fall decor!

Alex's new toy!

Alex's new pirate ship is his favorite toy! He was not interested in anything else including getting dressed after the bath. Thanks grandpa Kirk!

Next Pottery Project!

This one didn't turn out like I pictured it or wanted it to, but A for effort right! It is supposed to be a small platter/tray like piece. (about 6 inches long 4 inches wide 2 inches high) Andrew said it would be good for keys and wallet. Let me know what you think and what color you think I should glaze it.

Alex-Why take a nap at "nap time"?

So I am posting this and Alex is snoozing at the table as we speak. He decided to play in his room during nap time and sleep during dinner!...Time to get his priorities straight!

Phase 2 of my vase!

Here is my vase completed wet. Other than a little touching up, I just have to wait a week or two to go get it fired and glazed!...will share later.

It's A Girl!

Some of you may have heard. I am sorry if you are just getting this news...I can't remember who I have told. Yes...I am having a girl. Due date is Sept. 19th. Oh what fun summer will be for me. If anyone has the guts to complain around me about how hot it is, just expect to talk to the hand!

Pottery...One of my new favorite things!

So I started taking a pottery class. I was complaining to Andrew how day in and day out I do the same things (I love being at home with Alex), but miss stimulation to the brain. (For all of you mom's out there...I am sure you know what I am talking about). When the class opened up I decided to give it a try. Well unknown to myself...I have found the class to be very therapeutic and decided to go get my own tools since the class is coming to an end. I wanted to post what I have already made, but it is at school, so I will brag about those later, but here is my project I am working on at home at the time. The plan is for it to be a vase.

Alex and Andrew playing hide-n-seek!

Alex's favorite game right now is to play hide and seek. Andrew counts and Alex finds somewhere to hide. His favorite place is when I have gotten behind on laundry and he can hide in the pile of clean clothes.

Alex with his Buddy Joel!

Joel comes to play every week....they have become good friends (and enemies depending on who has the favorite toy of the second)

Easter!

Alex had so much fun on Easter Sunday. He doesn't understand the purpose of Easter yet of course, but he was fun to watch when he saw his new soccer ball, basketball and candy.
